FUN FACT ABOUT CHILLY CHICEKN: Chilly chicken was invented somewhere around the early 70’s by “Nelson Wang” (an Indian chef who is of Chinese decadence). Wang lives in India and owns a Chinese restaurant in Mumbai. Many food lovers from around the world, who are aware of this particular “chilly chicken fact” –ensure that they eat at his restaurant, whenever they get a chance.
Now… There is no way this dish is going to replicate the flavours of Wang himself, but if your looking to make some quick and easy homemade chilly chicken, then this is the recipe for you.
NOTE: If you are vegetarian or vegan, you can substitute the chicken with “semi firm” or “firm” TOFU
) Serves: 2
) Prep Time: 10 to 15 mins
) Cook Time: 20 to 30 mins
INGREDIANTS:
) Oil ( 3 Tablespoons )
) 1 Cup Boneless chicken (mix of small to medium pieces)
) Red & Green chillies chopped (3 to 4 chillies)
) Chopped Garlic ( 4 cloves )
) Chilli Sauce ( 2 to 3 Teaspoon )
) Soy sauce ( 1 Teaspoon )
) Tomato puree ( 4 Teaspoon )
) Sugar ( 4 Teaspoon )
) Basil leaves (medium size) 6 to 7 leaves
) Salt to taste
Direction:
STEP 1: Heat some oil in a non-stick pan
STEP 2: Add the garlic & chillies and fry for 30 to 40 seconds
STEP 3: Add the chopped chicken and let it cook for another 1 to 2 minutes ( keep coating the chicken with all the chillies & garlic while cooking).
STEP 4: Add 2 pinches of salt and give it a good mix
STEP 5: Once the chicken has cooked to about 70% – add the tomato puree, chilli sauce, sugar & soy sauce and mix it well
STEP 6: Cook until the sauce has reduced by 80% ( stir it 1 to 2 times – while in this process).
STEP 7: Add the basil and give it one last stir
STEP 8: Transfer to plate and serve
