1. Rules

Location: 35, Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2E 7LB

Year Of Establishment: 1798

This restaurant has an old ownership history. It was passed down from a descendant of the original Royal family to British-born but Paris-based chef Tom Bell when he chose to trade enterprises and cities. During WWII, it sold many dishes since it was not restricted to meat, and it now has its own land in the Pennines from where it obtains its food.

2. Wiltons

Wiltons is a restaurant that is so old that it existed before the United States and began as an oyster-selling establishment on Haymarket while George II was on the throne. Its lengthy history in its shift of ownership during World War II is the most interesting aspect of this restaurant. Bessie Leal, the owner back then, felt shaken by a bomb dropping nearby and asked one of her guests, Olaf Hambro if he knew anyone who would like to purchase a restaurant. He ended up saying the famous words “Put the establishment on the last page of the bill”.

3. Sweetings

Sweetings, an urban landmark that originated in Islington as a fish and oyster dealer before coming to the city, is such a traditional restaurant that it still exclusively serves lunch. It has been on Queen Victoria Street for almost a century, offering customers West Mersea oysters with a wine selection to match its city customers.

4. The Savoy Grill

The Savoy Grill has been around since the hotel’s opening in the late nineteenth century when it was relocated to the entrance of the hotel, which became one of the most famous theater drives, an appropriate tribute to the founder and theatrical entrepreneur Richard D’Oyly Carte. Gordon Ramsay has been running the restaurant for the past 20 years, which was a favorite of Sir Winston Churchill and, more recently, Sir Michael Caine and the Beckham Family.

5. The Ritz Restaurant

The opening of the Ritz was a significant achievement in London. This was an excellent spot for gossip and mischief, along with great cuisine, as it was often visited by the Prince of Wales and one of the few locations where unmarried women could go without being accompanied by someone. It is still one of the few restaurants in London that serves pressed duck. John Williams currently leads the cooking crew and the outstanding dining space, which has been awarded a Michelin star in 2017.
