Pizza For Breakfast, Anyone?

Pizza for Breakfast, but Not What You Think - The New York Times

Did you know that according to leading nutrition experts, pizza is a healthier choice for breakfast than eating sugar-filled breakfast cereals!

Despite the cereal industry’s mission to reduce the sugar content of their most popular brands over the past few years, many of them still contain more sugar than a delicious pizza.

Who isn’t guilty of chowing down on some leftover pizza the morning after having a pizza party? But, what you may not realise is that there could be worse things to eat for breakfast, so you shouldn’t feel guilty about enjoying some breakfast pizza.

While we know that eating pizza for breakfast is no substitute for a healthy breakfast of bacon and eggs, it is better than eating a big bowl of cereal that is packed with sugar.

Better blood glucose stability

Let’s take a look at a slice of our delicious MMM…Margherita. It has a perfect balance of carbs, protein and fat with its melty mozzarella and fresh tomato topping. It will fill you up and keep you satiated for a good few hours.

However, a big bowl of sugary cereal with skimmed milk is carbohydrate-packed and is primarily sugar. Eating sugary cereal with skimmed milk will spice your insulin levels and cause you to have a sugar crash and a massive drop in energy about an hour later.

This can lead to even more snacking on sugary biscuits and snacks that will cause rollercoaster blood sugar levels. Cereals and sugary snacks like biscuits and chocolate bars have inferior nutritional value too, so they are best avoided for good health.

While top nutritionists do not recommend that people eat pizza every day for breakfast, they try to encourage more people to ditch unhealthy sugary cereals.

Breakfast pizza (for breakfast?)

If you choose a pizza that is topped with lots of protein and healthy fats from the cheese, such as our GREAT BRITISH FRY-UP pizza with its sizzling bangers, smoked turkey ‘bacon’, hash browns, tomatoes and mushrooms, it will help you keep full throughout the morning and will make reaching lunchtime easier without the need for snacks.

Most people would be amazed to know that pizza is higher in protein and healthy fats than what the average English person eats for breakfast every day. While we should all try to make healthy choices for every meal, there is no harm in having some of our delicious leftover pizza for breakfast occasionally, especially if you eat it instead of breakfast cereal.

Health experts are trying to encourage people to be more mindful of what is in their food and eat meals that are higher in protein and minimise added sugar from ultra-processed foods that come out of a packet.

The pizza dough we use in the Pizza Depot Plaistow is freshly made from scratch and hand-stretched by our pizza chefs to build our perfect pizzas.

So the next time you eat our delicious leftover pizza for breakfast, don’t feel guilty. It’s going to be better for you than most breakfast cereals on the market!
