What To Do in Yogyakarta: Unmissable Experience Ever

Yogyakarta is an extraordinary town. One of our favourite cities in Indonesia. We like how most individuals are amicable and welcoming.

Visit the temples (Borobudur, Prambanan and Ratu Boko)

Even though Borobudur temple isn’t found in Yogyakarta, the temple, however, is one of the largest reasons why folks visit Yogyakarta. Should you visit Borobudur, attempt to have a sunrise trip (or the sunset!). It is worth it for the opinion. Besides Borobudur, the other sizable famous temple you want to see is Prambanan temple, which can be a Hindu temple. Below are the two most well-known approaches to visit Borobudur.

Visit Goa Jomblang

The cave is located in Gunung Kidul, one hour to 90 minutes drive from Yogyakarta. To enter Goa Jomblang, you are lowered 60 meters above the edge of a pond to the sinkhole. At the base of the sinkhole is a concealed forest from where you input a method of caves. The highlight of the excursion is Grubug Cave. There’s a gap in the roof of this cave and every dawn that the light filters through like a natural spotlight (if the weather allows). Learn more about Goa Jomblang and the best way to get there in this article.

Hike Merapi Volcano

There are plenty of volcanoes around Yogyakarta to scale. The most famous (and harmful since it’s one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia) to explore is Merapi. It’s a challenging pick. You may read more about my adventure hiking this volcano here. Apart from Merapi, there are Merbabu and Lawu. It’s possible to read my Lawu scale travel here.

Investigate the Kraton (Royal Palace)

The Kraton Kasultanan Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat, better called Kraton, is the royal palace. It is where the king and his family stay. I’ve never researched the Kraton tradition, but from what I heard from my best friend it is a wonderful place to visit and find out more about Javanese culture (directly from people who maintain the traditions alive each and every day). There are two entrances into the Kraton, but one is out of Tepas Keprajuritan, and another is Tepas Pariwisata. There is a Javanese cultural display which is possible to enjoy nearly every day (every day there is a different functionality ) either at 9 or 10 am.

Although it needs improved upkeep, it’s an excellent place to wander around. Visit early, investigate and lose yourself around the village’s small alleys, the mosque along with underground tunnels. Sometimes you will discover local guides that explain this and that. These men will not do any harm if you don’t need them to say, and they’ll stop after you. Otherwise, if you’re keen to have a local guide explain the region’s history, subsequently agree to a price before the ‘manual service’ starts.

Walk Between the Twin Beringin Trees

There are plenty of unique myths about the beringin trees struggle. Some say that if you can pass between the two trees with your eyes shut then anything you ask for is going to come true. Others say that people who succeed at passing between both beringin are capable of refusing reinforcements / some terrible things that are being addressed to her or him.

I failed this challenge in my first effort. I triumphed my second. I was quite surprised how hard it’s to walk into a straight line along with your eyes shut. You can rent a scarf to cover your eyes 5,000 IDR, or you can make your own if you’d like.
